Vietnamese packaging manufacturers favour German technology

More than 100 executives from Vietnamese packaging sector took part in a seminar in Ho Chi Minh City on September 16.

This seminar is to introduce the 2017 Interpack Fair and Exhibition which will be held in next May in Dusseldorf, Germany. Packaging sector is one of the fastest growing industries in Vietnam thanks to the increasing domestic demand for products as well as exports.

According to the German Food Processing and Packaging Machinary Association (VDMA), the Vietnamese packaging industry will grow at 38 percent annually in the period of 2015 to 2020, and demand for packaging machinery at 25 percent. However, the technology of Vietnam’s packaging industry is low. The backward technology is the biggest challenge for Vietnamese packaging manufacturers which prevents them from joining the international supply chain, according to Mr. Richard Clemens, CEO of the VDMA.

At the seminar, German experts showed off new technologies and materials in packaging industry. Many Vietnamese enterprises have already registered to take part in the 2017 Interpack Fair and Exhibition. Around 2,700 exhibitors from 60 countries are expected to take part in this event.

In current years, German packaging machines have become popular in Vietnam, rising to second place last year with imports of nearly 96 million USD, second only to Chinese ones.
